The role of subcomponents of the basal ganglia in the control of locomotion and orienting response Host: Karolinska Institute Nobel Institute for Neurophysiology, Department of Neuroscience
We will investigate the role of subcomponents of the basal ganglia in the control of locomotion and orienting responses. We will use a semi-intact experimental model of the lamprey CNS using tetrode recordings and patch recordings (this allows for recording of neuronal activity, while the head is fixed so that the brain remains in the same place, but the body is free to generate swimming and steering movements by different modes of activation). For enhancing and inhibiting the activity of cell populations in areas of interest:: adenovirus- induced expression of channel rhodopsins, and activation by light introduced via a glass fibre; local injection of GABA agonists such as muscimol.
